Start with the basics. Check out all your lower ball joints before you start to condemn a trans. There a lot of AWD vehicles that have ball joints that go bad.

you ever get an answer on the knock issue when you stop and go?

That is what it sounds like when you have a bad cv joint or the whole axle assembly. You can get a newly rebuilt one for $75 dollars from a parts store, but if you don't know how to install it, you can take it to a mechanic, and they will usually charge around $90 or so to fix it.

I have a 2005 Pacifica I had the same noise was told it was a motor mount I had that fixed and I have not had another problem or noise.

I was told by an ex-chrylser mechanic that the transmission mounts can go bad on these cars and cause the same problem
