2004 Chrysler Pacifica Q&A

2004 Chrysler Pacifica Question: knock in drive line and front end

When I apply brakes hard there is a knock which sounds like it is in the drive line. When I start driving from a stop I may also get the same sound. The sound comes from under the floor boards in the front. Also, sometimes when I turn the wheel to the left while in a parking lot I get a similar sound. A mechanic said it was the transfer case/drive line as I have "all wheel drive". Will you please comment? Thank you. -
Answer 1
Start with the basics. Check out all your lower ball joints before you start to condemn a trans. There a lot of AWD vehicles that have ball joints that go bad. -
Answer 2
at least one motor mount is broken. -
Answer 3
you ever get an answer on the knock issue when you stop and go? -
Answer 4
That is what it sounds like when you have a bad cv joint or the whole axle assembly. You can get a newly rebuilt one for $75 dollars from a parts store, but if you don't know how to install it, you can take it to a mechanic, and they will usually charge around $90 or so to fix it. -
Answer 5
I have a 2005 Pacifica I had the same noise was told it was a motor mount I had that fixed and I have not had another problem or noise. -
Answer 6
I was told by an ex-chrylser mechanic that the transmission mounts can go bad on these cars and cause the same problem -
