Kia Maintenance Procedures - Common Additional Services
The air filter accumulates dust and debris and should be replaced to protect the engine and maximize fuel economy. For optimal engine performance and longevity, replace every 1 year or 15,000 miles.
Automatic transmission fluid becomes heat fatigued and accumulates moisture over time which can lead to automatic transmission damage if not serviced regularly. The filter should be replaced at this time a well. This service should be performed every 2 years or 30,000 miles.
Brake fluid accumulates moisture and contamination from component wear over time and unless replaced every 30,000 miles or 2 years, can cause brake system damage.
Engine coolant breaks down, gets rusty and becomes contaminated with debris from component wear over time and can cause engine or cooling system damage if not replaced every 2 years or 30,0000 miles.
Differential fluid breaks down and becomes contaminated with moisture over time and can lead to differential damage from a lack of proper lubrication. It should be replaced every 2 years or 30,000 miles.
Differential fluid breaks down and becomes contaminated with moisture over time and can lead to differential damage from a lack of proper lubrication. It should be replaced every 2 years or 30,000 miles.
Drive belts crack and become glazed over time and can squeak or even break. They should be replaced every 45,000 miles.
The Fuel Filter becomes restricted as it accumulates debris from filtering the fuel which, can lead to performance problems and early fuel pump failure. It should be replaced at the mileage interval recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.
The Manual Transmission fluid breaks down and becomes contaminated with moisture over time and can lead to transmission damage from a lack of proper lubrication. It should be replaced every 2 years or 30,000 miles.
Spark Plug terminals wear down over time and can lead to engine misfires and increased exhaust emissions. Replace according to the vehicle manufacturers recommended replacement interval.
Transfer Case fluid breaks down and becomes contaminated with moisture over time and can lead to transfer case damage from a lack of proper lubrication. It should be replaced every 2 years or 30,000 miles.
On engines with adjustable valves, the valve train clearances can become improper which can lead to engine damage. The valve clearance should be checked and adjusted every 30,000 miles.

I have about 58,000 mi on my sorento and I need to know what I have to do for the 60,000 mi check up in order to keep up the warranty. I am on the normal maintenance schedule which says to only replace the cooling system fluid, but the dealer wants to replace timing belt, sparkplugs, transmission fluid, etc. The schedule says sparkplugs only need to be changed at 100,000 miles, and the transmission only needs to be checked and the drivebelts only need to be inspected. Does that include... |

What are people's general opinions about the reliability of the 2004 Optima LX V-6, especially the transmission and engine? Are the general maintenance and repair costs expensive? Is there an issue with the timing belt wearing out prematurely? What kind of gas mileage do you get? |

Where can I get the past maintenance records for my car since I bought it used from a used car dealership? I tried Kia.com but had no luck and my Carfax which I got before my purchase didn't list maintenance. Thank you! |

It is highly recommended that the timing belt is replaced on the 60,000mile scheduled maintenance, why is that not included in this estimate? |

My car is due for its 60000 mile maintenance. The dealership wants to replace the timing belt as part of this maintenance increasing the total maintenance from $400 to $1100. I have an additional platinum Kia warranty that covers my car until it has 95,000 miles or the year 2013. The timing belt is covered under that warranty. Can I have it replaced under the warranty if there is not a specific problem with it? If not, do I replace the timing belt as part of the maintenance for my car? If ... |
