After 15 years as a national transmission franchise we decided to go independent and became "Katzman Automotive and Transmissions". We can't tell you the name of our old franchise for legal reasons, but we can tell you a little about our shop now. We are in the same location and are now a complete Automotive Care facility with outstanding service and terrific people who perform timely repairs on most any kind of vehicle. We still do Manual transmission and clutches as well as our specialty automatic transmission service, repair and rebuilding, with a Nationwide ATRA warranty on all transmission repairs. The service engine light came on while driving my 2002 Saturn Vue. In no time at all the entire car started vibrating and the service engine light began to flash. I researched online and thought the problem was an ignition module. This car has been a problem since the day we bought it new,so I expected another $1000 plus bill for repairs. I took my car into Katzmans on a Saturday at 9am. They gave me a very fair estimate and promised to call me Monday as they were already booked for saturday. I could see several estimates and keys laid out on the counter so I understood they had people before me. They contacted me by Noon on Monday with the repair already completed. The actual repair was $35 more than the estimate, because when they fixed the first item ( sparkplug) they still needed to fix a second item that was actually causing the problem. The car now runs 100% better than BEFORE the service engine light came on. I am SO happy because this car is paid for and we were actually thinking we would have to junk it.
You can tell from the way this shop talks to you that they are very honest and straight forward with their work. There is nothing sly or sneaky or slick about this shop. What a refreshing change to actually be able to believe what a car repair shop tells you, and whats better, to even trust them.
I chose this shop because of the uncanny way the reviews were so accurate, and honestly written by real consumers. I will take my Infiniti back to this shop because they have created a life customer with me.
Took my '97 Toyota Runner in because of self-suspecting muffler issue and leaking valve cover gasket (after 257K+ mi). Katzman offered a free inspection (which is rare these days) to help confirm/clarify my suspecting issue. They confirmed the problem and showed it to me first hand. Mark and his shop (and thanks Mike!) were really personable and easy going folks who happily worked with me on making this repair cost-effective, fast, but high-quality. They beat or match other prices that I had received elsewhere. There was no up-selling, vague explanations, or hidden costs. They seem to really care about your car AND you. It's been 3 weeks now and all is well. Will definitely be going back for future needs. Keep up the great work!
Today was the first time taking my car to Katzman on a recommendation from a family friend. I was pleasantly greeted by Molly, the shop's furry friend, and Mark happily accommodated me without an appointment. I have not had great luck in the past with many repair shops and was pleasantly surprised at what a great experience I had at Katzman. Mark kept me in the loop with everything that was happening with my car, was very professional and polite, and had my car back to me the same day for a very reasonable price. I would definitely recommend this shop to anyone who is looking for that personal service they are not getting at other auto repair shops. I have found MY mechanic!
This is a remarkable Auto Shop. After many years of looking for an auto shop I could trust my car to, I finally found one. Jim Davis referred me to Katzman Automotive & Transmissions and I broughtr my vintage MB560 and then I met Mark and Lucinda , the owners, who are the nicest and most honest business people I have come across in a long time. In addition, Mike Ahearn, the manager and lead technician is knowledgeable, considerate and ever ready to explain. I consider myself very fortunate to deal with the Katzman Automotive group, I have been a consistent customer for many years.
Wow! Katzman does it a 2nd time! A while ago another shop gave me a $4,000 estimate for a transmission job and Katzman fixed it for $350. This time my van died just down the street from a Dodge dealer and it limped into the lot. Their diagnosis, complete electrical failure of the wiring harness and computer with a $3750 estimate. That seemed fishy to me and I had the van towed to Katzman. Mark and Mike had it up and running strong for less than $100!!!! All it needed was a new battery! You can trust the diagnosis at Katzman.
I took my Nissan Maxima there because there were some weird noises when I accelerate. I assumed a huge expense was about to occur and told Katzman to fix whatever it was. They could have charged me whatever and fixed whatever but after spending several hours with the car they determined that the engine was burning oil excessively and refilled my oil and then told me how to monitor it and take care of it so that I wouldn't damage my engine. They even offered to look at it again 60 days later. And all this was free of charge. They didn't take a penny from me for all the time they spent trying to figure out the problem. This is why I trust Katzman Auto and will never take my cars anywhere else. Thanks guys...I will definitely recommend them to others.
The transmission in my daughter's 1998 Honda Accord stopped working. The car would only drive in low or 2nd gear and the D-4 light was blinking. I figured it needed a rebuilt transmission and I was thinking about junking it. I called Katzman and they said they would look at for free. I had AAA tow the car to them. Katzman called back and said a mouse had chewed the electical lines to the transmission and they charged me about $150 to fix the problem. I am almost sure that if I had taken it to the dealer I would have heard the words "rebuilt transmission needed". Thank you Katzman, keep up the good work.
I have been using this shop for years (before they became Katzman)and have always been satisfied. They earned my loyalty when I took in a car for what I thought would be a major repair and they called me to say "just needed to top off the fluids, NO CHARGE!" They have always been more than fare and I have referred several people to them including my daughter. I have found it hard to find a shop I could trust, but these guys have earned it. They communicate very well and turn the work around fast. They have worked on my Chevy Suburban, Lincoln Town Car and Toyota MR2 and have done excellent work which they have stood behind when parts have failed under warranty with no question.
Just had my Acura Transmission worked on last month. I was having trouble finding a reliable and understanding repairshop. Luckily I found Katzman Automotive and got my transmission worked on. Everything is running good again and I look forward to using their service again in the future. Real nice people.
HONEST AND VERY KNOWLEDGABLE. Mark is flexible and easy to work with and he will get you set up with his master technician Mark who will impress you with his skill and honesty. I have been to this shop twice and both times they impressed me with their knowledge and honesty. I went to them the first time over a leaky transmission. I was mentally prepared to spend hundreds (transmission problems never let you off cheap). When I went to pick the Jeep up the charge was $20. Mike told me that I just needed a heavier weight transmission oil and that the tranny was fine otherwise. The second time I went in I was sure that there was something wrong with my steering gear. I even bought a new gear box and was again prepared to pay hundreds to have it installed. Again, a couple of adjustments and a few bucks and I was out and on my way to return the unneeded part. These guys are knowledgable and most of all HONEST. I will not take my Jeep anywhere else.

These guys - Mark, Mike, Oscar - are mechanical geniuses who do their work with passion. They are so technically proficient, they can build ANY car if parts are available, from top to bottom. Not only are they outstanding mechanics, they are also honest, and personable. I own a 2004 Land Rover Discovery, and the dealership didn't have time to complete my pre-warranty inspection. I discovered KATZMAN - the highest customer-rated ASE certified auto service center in the area, and gave them a try. They gave great advice, and made all necessary repairs on my DISCO. I highly recommend KATZMAN Automotive. They now service all of my vehicles.
If you are stuck with no facilities to do those tasks that are just a little too complicated for jack stands and a parking space (like most of us in NoVa), Katzman's is a affordable option for those standard maintenance tasks. I've had a complete transmission rebuild, full exhaust, up-pipe, ball joints, and a clutch/flywheel installed over the last couple of years. They are very friendly and turn around cars in a reasonable time.
I thought my transmission had gone out, I just had a broken axle. They fixed the long standing engine oil leaks.
Very professional, friendly, they know what they are doing, and they are honest.
I would like to keep this shop for myself!, and wish I had more cars that needed fixing! I will definitely recommend this shop to my family and friends.
I first took my Tahoe to Katzman(when they were with the franchise)for a problem that no one else could seem to find. They found it, fixed it, and I have been going there ever since. I have taken my Chevy, Toyota, and Oldmobile there and they have always given the lowest estimate, fixed all the problems and stand behind their work. It is really hard to find honest, reliable mechanics that you can always count on. They are down to earth friendly guys with the sweetest dog always waiting to greet the next customer! I recommend them to everyone.
I had taken my vehicles to Katzman several times before when he was operating under his franchise name. Then I moved about an hour away to a new house. I had trouble with my van and was told by a shop there that I'd need a new transmission for $4,000. It sounded fishy to me so I made the trip back to take the van to Katzman. The repair cost $350. I think I know where I'm going first next time.
The service engine light had been on in my wife's Mazda 6 for a couple of weeks, after checking the reviews for Katzman I decided to bring it here to get it looked at. My brother is a mechanic who ran a diagnostics test when the service engine light first came on and said hes almost 100% its the O2 sensors that need to be replaced. Upon entering the shop we were greeted by Mark (more about him later) who quickly came out and ran a diagnostics test, there was a total of 6 faulty codes which a little alarming to Mark but he at first agreed with my brother but with a little hesitation and we decided to get an estimate for replacing the O2 sensors. After agreeing to the estimate for the o2 sensors I let Mark know I was going to head to a nearby Deli to grab some lunch, meanwhile Mark said he would do a little bit more research to ensure we were going after the right repair in the O2 sensors. 15 minutes later I see Mark looking for me right outside of the Deli, he tells me he has good news he hopes. After him doing the research he found out the problem we have been having might be a simple tear in the intakes rubber boot and air might be getting in causing the 6 faulty codes. Low and behold he was right! Not only did he save me time probably 2 days worth but he also saved me money, the repair for the intake boot was about half of the cost of what the O2 sensors would have been. Its extremely hard to find TRUSTWORTHY, HONEST, and RELIABLE mechanics and I'm so grateful I came across Mark and the guys at Katzman. I train and manage customer service for a living and Mark and his team couldn't be more welcoming and helpful. The Mazda has been running perfect ever since the repair and I couldn't be happier with the service.
My 2007 Nissan Versa needed front and read brakes. After getting a quote from a national chain, I researched online to see if I was getting a fair price or not. I came across RepairPal and found out about Katzman Automotive. After reading all the great reviews, I decided to call and scheduled an appointment for a brake job. Not only did they finished the work quickly, they also beat the price that I got from the other repair shop. I can tell when talking to them that they really care about their customers and were very straightforward with me. It's hard to find a good and honest repair shop these days, and I think I may have found mine. Thank you Mark and Mike. My brakes can stop on a dime now. Keep up the great work.
I got Engine Malfunction indicator on my Acura MDX. I find Katzman through internet and went there. Mark , He is an Excellent transmission specialist. He explained me the problem with good analyzation. I am completely satisfied with their service. My car is working fine. Their service charges also very reasonable. I highly Recommend them.
I am a single Mom & just lost my job of 8 years due to cutbacks. I was told at my dealership that I needed either a reaction sun gear for $2800 or a new transmission for $4600. I decided to get a second opinion from Katzman Automotive. Mark and Mike are professional, knowledgeable, patient and kind!! They went over my vehicle thoroughly and could find nothing wrong. Did not charge me a thing for a consult. I am so thrilled that I finally found a place I can trust to take my vehicle. These guys are icons of integrity!!!
