RepairPal Expert Overview
Our Quick Take:
Vehicles that are rear ended during a collision can develop a fuel leak from the fuel tank, increasing the risk of a fire.
What Should You Do?
Chrysler will notify owners of the affected vehicles beginning July 12, 2013. If you don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer for further instruction. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call. The Grand Cherokee recall number is N45. The Liberty recall number is N46.
It has been determined the fuel tank in these vehicles is at risk of leakage during a rear end collision. To correct this concern dealers will inspect the rear of the vehicle and perform one of the following: A Chrysler designed tow hitch will be installed on vehicles not equipped with a tow hitch, provided the condition of the vehicles can support support proper installation. The tow hitch on vehicles already equipped will be inspected and replaced and/or repaired as necessary, again provided the vehicle is sound and can support proper instillation.
