I would recomend this shop to a friend, not only by the service and cost that I received, but thru a friend's recommendation because of his 10-year experience at James Auto.
I had two front wheel bearings reaplaced for the cost of one because the bearing failure (and hum) were too minimal to tell which one was bad by road test and examination of the bearings.

I highly recommend this shop to anyone who wants an HONEST, quality, dependable mechanic.
I purchased an old, 1989, Dodge Conversion Camper Van. The steering was a little lax and I took it to a "well known" business in San Leandro and was told it needed an entire new steering system with heavy duty parts at the cost of $3500. I asked if it needed everything done at once and was told, yes. I told them I was going to get some other estimates.
Thank God I found an HONEST mechanic. He was referred by a friend of a friend and I thought it couldn't be any worse than the first estimate. I didn't tell them I had taken it elsewhere because I wanted an unbiased opinion.
I called and got an appointment the next day. I dropped it off the evening before and Wally took a quick look and told me he needed to check it out thoroughly. The next day, he personally called me and explained the details to me. It was finished when he called me, with only a minimum labor charge.
I was expecting to hear it was going to cost around 2000 dollars. I asked, so "what are the damages" and was told $50. I WAS SHOCKED. It only needed a steering gear box adjustment. It did NOT need all new parts: ball joints, idler arms, new steering gear box or a drag link.This shop gets all my business in the future.
The hourly labor charge is 100 dollars here compared to 115 at the "other shop"
I am so impressed with Wally's honesty and integrity that I took the old van back and had new shocks put on, even though he told me I could probably do without them. I camp in remote locations on forest service roads and wanted the security of having new shocks.

Wally was awesome! He listened to my problem, told me he would look at it, got it done for $50.00!!! And was done within hours after I dropped it off. He never treated me like I was not worth explaining things to, never considered that maybe a GIRL wouldn't understand and did nothing but smile and please me all the way. It was really nice to be treated like a smart person instead of like a dumb girl. Thanks Wally!

I finally found a good mechanic! I took my RV in for a brake caliper problem - Not only were they fast but very honest about my options. I went ahead and had them investigate another problem I'd been having with the generator for over a year - They were able to find the problem and get it repaired - both items came in under the original estimate - we are now happily winter camping again! Thank you so much!

James Auto worked on my Honda, they worked on the 90,000 service and brakes.
Thanks to Alex and Wally I feel safe driving my car. very good customer service, I recommned to all my friends.

The Last Honest Shop. This actually happened; a Lady picked up her Toyota and they said "no charge". They told her the leak was a small valve in the bottom of her radiator and they replaced it.
She was in shock but happy.
My car actually needed service and they were nice to explain exactly what was wrong and fix it fairly fast and very fair priced.
This place wont wow you form the outside, but inside these guys work hard and work fair.

The best. Twice the end price was well less than estimated. Once I brought in my Honda for a new timing belt. He called me later and told me it wasn't necessary as I had a timing chain. The other was to replace (as I recall) my alternator. The final price was less because I didn't have an air conditioner and the access was easier than expected. Save me @ 200.00 and I would never have known the difference had he not been so honest.

AN HONEST AUTO MECHANIC
With ethics and integrityThe following story is true. My wife and I are from Las Vegas, Nevada, were travelling in the San Leandro area and suddenly the engine of our motorhome stopped running. We were lucky to find James Auto Truck Service and had the motorhome towed to the shop at 2.30 pm and later at 7.00 pm the mechanic called us to say that the motorhome is repaired and ready to be picked up. We emphasised that he has fulfilled what he said and his price is very fair compared to other estimates we had received.
We strongly recommend James Auto Truck Service to anyone.

My family has been going to James Auto for 25+ for all maintenance & repairs and would never consider going anywhere else. You come away confident that you have received excellent honest work, along with fair labor rates. When you are told your car will be ready, it is. If you don't need a repair, you are advised of this. Car repairs/maintenance are always an inconvenience, however, James Auto does an excellent job in taking away the hassle.

Wally and Karen go the extra mile (so your car can too) my work van had tranny and differential major work needed at same time. Wally was able to take care of both while I was on a trip( so no down time for me) and also he sceduled at the same time for a moble windshield co. to replace windshieled Time for me is valuble.
