Jaguar XK Repair and Maintenance

A guide to problems, costs, maintenance and repair for your Jaguar XK

Jaguar XK Problems

The Check Engine Light may illuminate with fault codes P0491 or P0492 stored. Our technicians tell us that the engine control module (ECM) software should be upgraded to correct this concern.

Various issues with the door glass can be caused by the glass being out of adjustment, not a faulty window regulator. These issues include a knock, squeak, or binding condition when raising or lowering the door glass. Our technicians tell us that window adjustment should be checked first if any of these symptoms occur.

High brake pedal effort may be required to start the engine. Our technicians tell us if the vacuum supply to the brake booster is correct, adjusting the brake light switch and recalibrating the anti-lock brake modulator pressure sensor will generally correct this concern.

Jaguar XK Recalls

297 vehicles are being recalled because one or both rear tow adjustment links may come loose from the rear sub-frame. These adjustment links are used to help control rear wheel alignment. If a tow link were to come loose a loss of directional control could result, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the nut and washer assembly on the rear toe links to correct this concern.

When the convertible roof is operated, the power windows are also activated. The switch in the overhead console for opening and closing the convertible roof does not operate the power windows in a manner consistent with federal safety standards. Dealers will replace the overhead console with a new one which contains a revised switch to correct this concern.

Leaks may develop from the metal power steering lines due to improper corrosion protection. Loss of power steering fluid can result in a loss of power steering assist, increasing the risk of a crash. Leaking power steering fluid also increases the risk of a fire. Dealers will replace the suspect or leaking power steering lines. This recall is expected to begin by April 11, 2011. The Jaguar recall number is J018.
