Jaguar XK Repair and Maintenance

A guide to problems, costs, maintenance and repair for your Jaguar XK

Jaguar XK Problems

The Check Engine Light may illuminate with fault codes P0491 or P0492 stored. Our technicians tell us that the engine control module (ECM) software should be upgraded to correct this concern.

A creak, click, or squeal type noise may be noted from the front brakes under light brake application. Our technicians tell us that lubing appropriate brake caliper and pad surfaces and installing new front brake pads should correct this concern.

Various issues with the door glass can be caused by the glass being out of adjustment, not a faulty window regulator. These issues include a knock, squeak, or binding condition when raising or lowering the door glass. Our technicians tell us that window adjustment should be checked first if any of these symptoms occur.

Jaguar XK Questions

I replaced the 4+ year old battery.
Did fine for two months, then battery went down again.
68,000 total miles on odometer.
No warning lights or indications of electrical issue.
What drains the battery down so fast?

How often should battery in smart key be replaced?

I am trying to get a cold air intake, but I am not sure if the engine space allows it. I was also contemplating just the regular K&N replacement. Any recomendations on a specific brand that you have in yours, as far as cold air intake. I am looking for some additional HP.

Jaguar XK Recalls

All late model vehicles are equipped with a tire pressure information label. These vehicles are being recalled because "none" may be indicated for the recommended spare tire pressure. As a result the spare tire may not be properly inflated and ready to use if the need arises. Dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and attach a new tire pressure label as necessary to correct this concern.

297 vehicles are being recalled because one or both rear tow adjustment links may come loose from the rear sub-frame. These adjustment links are used to help control rear wheel alignment. If a tow link were to come loose a loss of directional control could result, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the nut and washer assembly on the rear toe links to correct this concern.

When the convertible roof is operated, the power windows are also activated. The switch in the overhead console for opening and closing the convertible roof does not operate the power windows in a manner consistent with federal safety standards. Dealers will replace the overhead console with a new one which contains a revised switch to correct this concern.
