is there some kind of tensioner on shift indicator cable on 1997 Ford Crown Victoria

there is slack in the indicator cable when i go like from drive to park but the cable is tight going from park to any other gear wondering if there is some kind of tensioner or coil on the shift indicator cable or if maybe the cable just stretched cause it is fine down at the tranny
