Question: Is there any way to quiet the lifters. They tick quite loudly.

But not all the time. I read you could put a quart or 2 of Tranny fluid in the crankcase before an oil change (not over filling of course) and it might clean the oil passages.

    YOY CAN DO THAT OR USE A OIL FLUSH KIT. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE MOTORS

    Thanks for the reply. I've read that it is a common problem. What I'm curious about is does the noise mean the lifters are experiencing excessive wear?

    they are hydralic and they are not holding pressure like they use to. that could be from debry or just being old and worn badly. you might try an oil stabilizer like lucus oil treatment that does help. yes it is wearing them down or better yet wearing them out
