My dad's car is overheating and he is constantly taking it to the same mechanics that I worry are taking advantage of him. they said he needs to replace the upper intake manifold. When I was researching on the part I see there is only one piece and it is not upper or lower..what should I do ?

Good job watching out for Dad!

The intake manifold on this car is common for replacement on this car. It is a composite material, and it cracks in various places, such as around the thermostat housing area.

It is an expensive repair...probably around $900? Depends on where you live, and cost of labor, etc. The parts are expensive, at least.

As always, get a second opinion elsewhere if you have concerns about the techs working on the car.

Would this cause a hose to blow? because he replaced a hose before he took it to the mechanic...

It would not cause a hose to blow. Not sure what that issue is. Could be a separate stand alone issue. Which hose was it?

it was the hose that goes into the manifold

I don't have any hard experience with that hose failing, but I suppose it could. More likely, the manifold has been cracked and leaking for a longer period of time. Hopefully there is evidence of the hose failure that you can see.

use the after market intake as it is reinforced with metal at the weak point where alt attaches and cracks-Ford had a recall notice on this so check with a dealer to see if it is still covered-Cost is around $750 otherwise

The extended warranty coverage has long since expired on this car.
