2002 Mercury Mountaineer Question: is the mountaineer suppose to stay neutral when you remove the front drive shaft

its making a rattling sound at the front what could that be is it the front drive shaft

    need to know when it rattles? on bumps, all the time, turning corners, only in 4x4?

    have one in now with front drive shaft bad so be sure to check it. if this is all wheel drive, check tires to be sure same and same tread depth. will cause transfer case to engage if tire difference.

    Yes its all wheel drive I put in a new trans case and it still makes this noise when im acelerating checked the wheels and there fine What can it be?
