1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Question: Is the A/C relief valve a consumer-replaceable part?

We have been told that the A/C relief valve on our truck has a leak. I have seen, on the internet, that I can get a new valve for $30-$35. But, is it replaceable by me, or do I need to take it to a repair shop/dealer?

By "relief valve", I am guessing you mean the high pressure relief valve on the back of the compressor? If so, then yes you can replace it, but you will need a way to (legally) recover the refrigerant and then vacuum and recharge the system when you're done with the repair.

I agree! However unless you are pretty car savvy and equiped to do this, best left to someone that is.
