I had a slow leak of antifreeze fluid but now when I pour the antifreeze in it runs straight through to the ground. I've been told it may be the waterpump and I've been told it may be a head gasket. My car thermastate raises but goes back down while driving. What's your opinion based on the facts given?
Is it the water pump or more serious? on 2000 Oldsmobile Alero

Water pump leaks are very common for the 2000 Oldsmobile Alero with the 2.4L engine. It would be very uncommon for a head gasket leak to allow coolant to run "straight through" to the ground. If should not be difficult to find the cause of such a major leak. After the major leak has been corrected the system should be retested to see if there are any other smaller leaks.
