2001 Porsche Boxster Question: Is it possible an oil seperator can fail less than 150 mi of having oil changed?

I had oil changed 3 days prior to 125 mi road trip. During road trip white smoke started coming from tail pipe. A few mi later the check engine light came on and I immediately pulled over. The car was towed back to Firestone who checked prob out and refuse to take care of issue, although there was NO INDICATION of ANY problems prior to oil change. I just turned 72,000 mi on car. Should this prob have been detected during oil change? Appx how much would Porsche dealer charge to replace oil seperator filter, as I have been told by Firestone this is the issue that caused car to engulf in white smoke. PLEASE HELP because Firestone has had my car towed to Porsche dealership and I await their call for quote on repairs. THANKS SO MUCH!

Thanks for your reply ,,,... But FORTUNATELY , It appears
The oil separator (coincidently) wore out, shortly after my
$130 oil change! The issue has been repAired by PORSCHE dealership
Who assured me No damage to engine occurred bc I immediately
Pulled over& turned car OFF, once the " check engine" light came
On! Picked it up in Atlanta yesterday & driving like NEW! Wheeew!
Counting my lucky stars what coulda been a MAJOR EXSPENSE
put me a little under $800 for the repair! of course, don't misinterpret
"THAT PRICE" to be pnuts either! Coulda been So much WORSE!
btw... After doing research, I understand this seems to he an issue
Once the cars hit appx 70,000 mi & mint just turned over 72,000..
