Question: Interior on the dashboard red brake light

 Rookie

In the morning I start the car up and let it idle. but the Red brake light comes on and I have a problem shifting the automatic transmission. This red light is the one that comes on when the emergency brake is engaged. After a couple of minutes I turn off the car restart the car and finally the automatic shift works. I drive away and 15 minutes and 8 miles later the red light does out and everything is fine. I am perplexed to say the least

    The red light may mean that your brake hydraulic system has a problem, so I would really check that ASAP, start by verifying that your brake fluid level is ok and not low.

    As for your transmission, it sounds like you may have a defective shift lock solenoid system. This is what allows you to get the vehicle out of park when you step on the brake, so check the brake switch and the solenoid, or have a shop do the above.
