Question: Interior lights take a long time to turn off after turning off ignition

Does anyone know what might be the cause of my interior lights not turning off for a long time (a few minutes) after I've shut off the ignition and closed all doors (locked)?

I noticed once I turn off the car, the interior lights turn on. I don't believe this was normal behavior. Then once I exited the car and closed the door and locked it, the interior lights were slightly dimmed but did not turn off until a few minutes.

What might be the cause of this?

The interior lights are controlled by a multiplex system. The system gets a signal from the door switch and controls the interior lights. There could be an issue with the switch, the multiplex control unit or maybe the wiring in between. I have run into issues where the customers were using a power inverter plugged into a power socket bleeding back keeping the interior lights on. I would unplug any accessory in the power sockets and recheck the lights. If it continues then the next step is to have a qualified technician take a look at it.
