Yes it has a Interference engine and my book shows to replace the timing belt at 105,000 miles and as long as it has been replace at this mileage these are very good cars. You can see estimates here http://repairpal.com/estimator?car_type_id=3462

When a broken belt will cause severe damage. It's my understanding a non-interference engine will Not have as much damage when a belt breaks.
Is the 2.4L 4cyl in the 96 Accord an Interference or non interference engine?
Is there any way to tell when the timing belt needs replacement or is it necessary every 60,000 miles?
