Electrical Issues Due to Degraded Engine Wiring Harness on Mercedes-Benz 400SE

The engine wiring can degrade because the insulating material falls off leaving the bare wire exposed. This can cause many problems depending on which wires are exposed and what they touch.

1992 Mercedes-Benz 400SE 220,000 mi,
Wiring frayed and old. Was told that these wiring harnesses are problematic on many Benz models. Part is around $600 and supposedly no aftermarket versions are available....
1992 Mercedes-Benz 400SE 255,000 mi,
My vehicle jut started to rum rough after I started it, so I inspected the engine wiring harness and the insulation are many of the wires were degraded to the point, that the insulation was just walling off each individual wires! I did find a guy who does rewire the complete wiring harness, but it is very costly $650.00 total. If I buy a new original wiring harness, this new harness will in time degrade like the one in my vehicle right now, as it is made with the same inferior wires which do not hold up in time!
