1996 Dodge Ram 2500 Question: installing 600 watt amp.

i am installing a 600 watt 4 channel amp and it calls for a battery hookup power line. it needs a 50 amp fuse 12 inches from battery with 10 guage power wire to the amp. the only thing i installed to my battery that is a after market item is an alarm. will i need to upgrade my alternator or is stock sufficient?

    I would upgrade the alternator. A lot of alternators are just capable of supplying power for the loads all ready on the vehicle. Ask the parts stores what the alternator is rated at, (or call the dealer's parts department) and then turn on all your electrical loads , air conditioning, headlights ect, using an inductive amp meter around the negative battery cable I bet the electrical load is near the rated output of the alternator.
