My vehicle has 77,000 my security light comes on the dsh board and the car wont start, after waiting for about 30 min it starts rite up with no problem. some people said its sending a signal to the car that its being stolen so it shuts down. I don't know what it is. any info on what or how to fix it is greatly appreciated. thanks again

torque wrench from Stewart's Auto Repair LLC, December 30, 2010, 20:13MasterThe security system has a key reader in the ingnition lock cyl. if the lock cyl. is going bad it won't read the chip in your key and sent alarm to the computer saying the car is being attempted to be started with the wrong key and go into theft mode. This disables the car from being started. For the time being it is able to reset itself after you wait but will end up leaving you stuck if not repaired

Superbob December 30, 2010, 20:17ReplyMasterIf you have an aftermarket security system, I say remove it. I've had to eliminate many of those over the years. If it's OnStar, I think there's a number you can call and ask them what's up and if they can help you. If it's chevy original equipment, it may be saveable, but you may need to take it to an auto electric shop or a GM specialist. Best of luck, here's a directory link for you:
