Ignition problems on 2005 Volvo XC90

Vehicle's ignition switch will not go beyond the accessory point while trying to turn the vehicle on with the key. Had to have vehicle towed. Is the vehicle ignition switch the most common problem when this occurs?

all you have is the mechanical lock tumbler and the electrical ignition switch behind it. there is also an interlock to the shifter; this prevents accidental starter engagement if the shifter is in gear.

It is an easy process to remove the switch and if it's off you can check the lock cylinder. Zee
