ignition on 1997 Cadillac Catera

i put my key in and try to start it,but there is no resistance when i turn the key.it goes strait to the power posistion

Sounds like the ignition switch has failed AC Delco Borg Warner ans Standard motor products all manufacture them so it must be a common part that fails, about $135.00 retail

there is also a small metal pin that turns the ignition switch inside the steering column, i had this problem before you could either pull out the ignition switch and turn it with a small screwdriver or hotwire it like i did. if you choose the screwdriver method you will still need the key btw but it will eventuall grind out the ability of the ignition switch to turn to pos #3 (starter )
