The ignition lock cylinder may have failed in your 2009 Chevrolet Malibu or it could be that the ignition key is worn. If you have a spare key try that one and see what happens. If your key is worn and you don't have a spare you can have a new key made at your local GM store using the factory key codes. If at new key still won't turn the ignition the chances are the ignition lock cylinder is damaged and will require replacement.

It was the ignition cylinder, thank god it was under warranty.

The automatic transmission shifter may fail causing the ignition key to become stuck in the ignition lock cylinder.
