If just stopped while I was driving even though I had timing belt replaced 2 years ago. Mechanic says it will be $2500 to fix it. Will the fix be worth the money? And how can they say how much it will be until they get into it? Help?

MasterI have this engine listed as a Interference design. This means if timing belt broke while engine is running it could cause damage as result of pistons coming into contact with valves. How much damage would depend if and how much it would cost to repair. Better to prevent this that wait till it happens.

It is 13 years old 140,000 miles and i would have to borrow to get it fixed. I'm not auto savvy so I would like an honest opinion before I get in too deep. Thank you

milesauto, January 23, 2013, 13:55MasterMy crystal ball is not working too well but I will try and advise you. Sounds like its going to need a valve job since it most likely bent some valves. The car as its sits is vitualy worthless...hard to sell if it is not running. If you like the car overall and it fits your needs then it may be only way to go is go ahead and invest the money and repair it. If you had no car at all..and you could buy this car for what its going to cost in repairs ...would you buy it?...you got to anwser that question in your own mind. Good luck...hope it all works out for you.
