When I turn my AC on, the rpms drop and engine shudders. I have never had my AC serviced as I lived in New England. Moved to GA and now use it more often. Car has 49k. If it is something simple, I can repair it myself...just tell me how. Thanks.

Does the air conditioning cool? If the air conditioning is working, when the air conditioning compressor kicks in it puts a load on the engine and the idle speed drops. The engine computer picks up this RPM drop and tells the idle air control motor (IAC)on the throttle housing to kick up the idle.
The IAC gets fouled with carbon build up. Remove the throttle housing intake boot and clean the throttle butterfly housing and throttle butterfly with the throttle fully open (engine off). If that doesn't help the IAC motor needs to be disassembled and cleaned or replaced.
