As I recall the supercharger belt on your 1996 Buick Rivera drives only the supercharger - if that is the case I don't think you would have a problem driving with out the belt. Please check to be sure the the supercharger belt is driving only the supercharger (plus whatever idler and tensioner pulleys there are). If the problem with your supercharger is noise from the front section you may be able to replace only what is called the coupler - not the complete supercharger. Try a search and see if the supercharger couplers are still available.
