tires on the ground and the vehicle in nuetral.now i can not get it to go in to any gear.its manuel and it wont engage in reverse or forward.the 2 universal joints seem in tact

It sure sounds like, or i hope, the transfer case is in neutral. It has to be in gear too!!! Check the owners manual if you have one. You probably dont use 4x4 much in FL.

Hopefully pushrod is right and you have the transfer case in neutral, but if you didn't (or can't) shift it into neutral you may have damaged the transfer case. The AWD versions have a viscous clutch inside them that allows for some speed differential between the front and rear axles, the operative word here is some, and towing it while holding two wheels in place can overheat that and ruin it pretty quickly.
