Acura Q&AAsk Your Question
1999 Acura CL Question: I recently had a tune up and now my milage has dropped,
First..What kind of fuel mileage are you getting? Second..Are you checking it on a road trip or in city driving?

prior to tune up I was averaging 21 mile per gallon, combo highway/ city kept average for 9 years. nothing new... now it is down to 16-17 mpg at best.

Could be a combination of several factors...one is the fuel is not the same you are burning before. 10% ethonol cuts mileage plus other changes in fuel blends thanks to Uncle Sam. Car is older now so that is going to be less mileage due to carbon build up on valves and normal wear in engine. Has other maintenance been done at proper intervals?.... like valve clearance checked and replacement timing belt. Some other basic things to check is wheel alignment and air pressure in tires.

all maintence has been done. timing belt 5 months ago. The concern is that prior to "tune up" car was getting 21 mpg day after 16mpg??? tires 8 months old, first thing I checked was tires, air filter, oil, and gas. olny thing different on this tune up was the pcv valve replacement.

You could take it back to whomever did tune up and have them check for anything that they did that may of changed. Hard for me to imagaine what they could have changed other than spark plug gap or intervertaly distrurbed something.

I did take it back...they are stumped. could the PCV valve have gone bad...I had ordered it from Acura?

worth a try. Have seen aftermarket parts cause crazy issues sometimes.
