It only started to do this after about 58,000. I have now about 59,850 on the car. I know I'll be taking it in shortly for the 60,000 mile checkup. Want to know what I'm asking about.

It could be many things, unfortunately and without hearing the noise first hand or being able to do some basic diagnostic tests or be able to drive the car, its hard to say what the source of the noise may be. It may be the alternator, power steering pump or even fuel pump? When you are bringing in the car for service go for a drive with the mechanic so you can point out the exact noise you hear and under the conditions you hear it.
