The noise comes from the front of the vehicle, it is not present when driving at low speeds and seems to go away if I slow the car down, below 65 on freeway, and when I brake.

Check your wheel bearings, they will cause a grinding type noise or roaring sound. You will hear it more with higher speeds then you will at slow speeds. Also check your brakes for sticking or loose calipers.
