2002 Chevrolet Tahoe Question: I have a thomping, pinging noise when I drive. It stops when I do. What is it?

This does not happen in reverse. on the inside it sounds like a bumping noise.

    You will need to have it inspected. There are over 40,000 moving parts on the average vehicle.

    What conditions cause the noise? anytime it's in drive and rolling forward? Only at certain speeds? under light/hard accelleration? Does the thumping speed increase with wheel speed,engine speed , or change at all with gear changes? Turning have any effect on the severity of it?Any other things you can think of that cause the sound to change? Let us know , maybe we can be of more assistance.
