Question: i have a 1995 toyota tacoma 2.7 4x4 with a crack head

can i a 1999 2.7 tacoma head as a replacement

    Yes, the cylinder heads are interchangable from 1995 - 2007. But there are two different types one with a Distributor, and the other is without. Napa auto Parts has both available part# MCYTOY524 with dist. or part# MCYTOY540 without dist. both are pretty expensive. I would check with a local machine shop that does cylinder head work they can repair most cracks anymore. Most will guarantee the work and would be much cheaper the buying a new or rebuilt one. I would also have your head resurfaced, and pressure checked for other cracks those two things run about $70.00 in my area.

    You will find that a salvage yard is much less expensive. Then take the used heads to a machine shop and them checked out. Most salvage yards give at least a 90 day warranty.

    If you have high miles, I do not recommend replacing the head. Look for a used low mile engine the price of the entire job does not cost that much more. you have to factor in the price of the gaskets machine shop and the head. You will be happier in the end.
