Question: I have a 05 chevy 1500 4x4 I have a growling,scraping noise in front end

I cant pinpoint it I think its the front diff.gets louder when put in 4wd and the noise some time is just not there like its gone. I've raised it up and tried the stethoscope thing, change both front berrings sometimes the noise is so loud it is startaling, im just wondering if any one else had this problem and if any one can give some good advice .im a doit your selfer

    Could be the tranfer case...they go bad and if can sound like you are dragging your exhaust system on the ground. Just fixed a ford escape 4x4 with a very similiar description. It was the transfer case. Pull drain plug on the side of it and see if there are a lot of metal shavings inside. If so, there is your problem.
