I had gotten rear ended the other day, no visible damage at all. The next time I on 1999 Dodge Ram 1500

Next time I drove it, the check engine light came on and there was a loud popping sound from the muffler and it started sputtering and about to die. Gave it some gadand it stopped sputtering but did it again later. Fuel pump? Filter, cat? What could it be?

The rear ending didn't involve bending a tailpipe in did it?

No. He hit me square. My hitch dented his license plate and that was it. I saw him coming and took my foot off the brake so I would roll when he hit me. Thought someone may have heard of something like this happening before.
