The oil light came on, or the "Oil Change Required" message stays on?

The oil can light coming on is suggesting a low oil pressure situation, which is serious. Do not run the car in this instance until it is changed out.

If it's the message in the message center, you have to hit "SET UP", and follow the instructions to hold "RESET" to reset the indicator.

From your Ford Five Hundred owners manual, here are the instructions:

To reset the oil life to 100% with system warnings CHANGE OIL SOON/OIL CHANGE REQUIRED displayed:

    1. Select this function from the SETUP control for current display mode. "Oil Life 0%. Reset if new"

    2. Press and release the RESET control to display “IF NEW OIL HOLD RESET”.

    3. Press and hold the RESET control to display OIL LIFE SET TO 100%. Your oil life is now reset.
