This problem has been occuring for about 2 weeks but has gotten to the point where I can't shift my gear out of Park no matter how hard I push the brake pedal. When I get ready to shift I pull the handle towards my direction then I pull down to put it in Drive. This time I can only pull it forward but not down to put it in drive.

If the brake lights are out, the car wont shift. I had same problem. I realized that the brake lights were out, I simply changed the fuse and it works fine.

I do alot of stop light switches for this concern, check to see if your brake lights operate.if not check for power into the switch, then press the brake and check for power out of the switch.
