Question: I am having problems with the RPM.

My car shifts or knocks hard when driving normal on the streets and highway. Yesterday, while driving at 55 mph there is a howling, pitching sound/noise.

  3 speed or 4 speed transmission? Big difference in operation. In either case, check your transmission fluid level. If ok, My suggestion is to take the vehicle to a reputable repair shop of dealership in your are for diagnosis.
