Hyundai Veracruz Problems

No Sound from Speakers

Hyundai Veracruz models equipped with navigation units may suddenly stop playing audio from all speakers. This includes sound from CD players, radio, navigation, satellite radio, and telephone calls. All other features may still function properly.

This fault requires no part replacement, and is a software glitch that can be rectified by a 'hard reset'.

To perform the hard reset, simply disconnect the vehicles negative battery terminal, wait 15 minutes, and reconnect the negative battery terminal.

Idle Fluctuation Concern

An idle fluctuation may be noted, the Check Engine Light may or may not illuminate. Replacing the throttle position sensor and updating the powertrain control module (PCM) software will commonly correct this concern.

Alternator

We have had the VeraCruz since 12/07, today we replaced the third alternator and battery. Solution=replace with another junk Hyundai alternator.

Potential Charging System Fault

An engine oil leak from the front valve cover gasket could result in enough oil leaking onto the alternator to cause its failure. An alternator failure will cause the charging system warning light to illuminate. Driving the vehicle in this condition for a unknown period of time will result in the engine stalling, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect and repair or replace the alternator and front valve cover gasket as necessary to correct this concern.

The Brake Light Switch May Fail Prematurely

The affected vehicles are being recalled because the brake light switch can fail prematurely, resulting in the loss of brake light operation. Other systems that may be affected include: cruise control, push-button start, gear shifter, and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system. Dealers will replace the brake light switch to correct this concern.

The Driver's Airbag May Not Deploy as Designed

The clock spring electrical contact for the driver's airbag may become damaged through normal usage over time. The electrical circuit will experience a high resistance condition and in the event of a crash, the driver's airbag will not deploy, increasing the risk of personal injury. Dealers will replace the contact assembly as necessary to correct this condition. The Hyundai recall number is 103.

Hyundai Veracruz Reviews

The Veracruz seems to be a beefed up version of the Santa Fe. It has a 3rd row seat and heavy duty suspension, so the car feels almost truck like. Uses large tires and has an overall look of a solid SUV. This results in a slightly rough ride and some road noise. The V6 engine is strong, but I suspect the transmission is barely adequate, because the car shifts often when extra power is neede...
I bought my 2011-Veracruz Aug 2010 and within 2weeks the moldings on the sides of the car was falling off. That was repaired by the dealer. Since then I have had nothing but headaches with my Veracruz. Little control in stopping the vehicle on the highway, ESC light comes on allowing the vehicle to move no faster that 20-25 mph. First occurrence- dealer replaced the brake switch. Yes the car dr...
I would not recommend purchasing a Hyundai Veracruz. I purchased a 2008 Veracruz and have had nothing but problems. Within the first year of purchase it stalled while travelling at 100km. It suddenly lost all power. Then the timing chain failed. You may feel as I did that you are getting great value for the money. To the contrary, you are getting what you pay for. My recommendation - Buy North ...
