An electronics fault causes conflicting steering wheel input data to shut down the power assist in affected vehicles. Power steering is most important at low speeds and while parking, and difficulty steering may result in a crash. Dealers will update electronics that control the power steering to correct this problem.
208 vehicles are being recalled because the may have been assembled with an incorrect left drive axle. This could result in separation of the left axle from the transaxle differential. If this were to occur the vehicle would stop moving, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, the vehicle could roll unexpectedly while parked. Dealers will inspect the left drive axle and replace it as necessary.
Due to an electrical circuit failure the brake lights may not work, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will repair the brake light switch circuit to correct this concern.
These vehicles are being recalled because the transmission shift cable may come loose from the shift lever pin. If this were to occur, the gear selected may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle could move in an unexpected direction. Also, if the parking brake is not set when the vehicle is parked, the vehicle could roll unexpectedly even if the indicated gear is "park". Dealers will inspect and repair the connection between the shift cable and the shift lever to correct this concern.
An engine oil leak from the front valve cover gasket could result in enough oil leaking onto the alternator to cause its failure. An alternator failure will cause the charging system warning light to illuminate. Driving the vehicle in this condition for a unknown period of time will result in the engine stalling, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect and repair or replace the alternator and front valve cover gasket as necessary to correct this concern.
An electrical problem with the vehicle may lead to loss of power steering and an inability to shift the vehicle from 'Park'. Low speed maneuvers while parking may be especially difficult with heavier steering feel, and may cause loss of vehicle control.
Vehicles first sold or currently registered in areas where salt is used to de-ice the roads are being recalled because one or both front lower control arms may break due to excess corrosion. The lower control arm is part of the front suspension. If one were to break loss of vehicle control could occur, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the front lower control arms and will rustproof or replace them as necessary.
The Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) is part of the Anti-Lock braking system. The vehicles being recalled may have been assembled with brake fluid that does not protect the HECU from corrosion. If the module were to corrode, braking effectiveness could be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash. For vehicles manufactured prior to June 01, 2010, dealers will change the brake fluid and inspect the HECU, repairing it as necessary. For vehicles manufactured after June 01, 2010 dealers will flush the HECU assembly and brake system and change the brake fluid.
The rear suspension is the attaching point for the control arms and other rear suspension components. Road salt and water can accumulate in and around the rear crossmember causing it to rust. Excessive rust could cause one or both rear control arms to separate from the crossmember resulting in a sudden change in vehicle handling, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the rear crossmember and repair or replace it as necessary to correct this concern.
The front axles direct engine power to the front wheels. Vehicles equipped with a 2.4L engine are being recalled because the right front axle may break. This could result in loss of engine power to the wheels and the vehicle would no longer be able to move under it own power. Also, if the parking brake is not applied when the vehicle is parked it could roll unexpectedly. Both of these conditions increases the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the affected axle shaft assembly to correct this concern.
