humming sound on 1996 Chevrolet Blazer

humming sound coming from the rear of engine, below the power brake booster. humming goes away if engine rpm is slightly increased from an idle. Maybe a vacuum leak somewhere??

Possible vacuum check valve at the booster.

It sounds like it isn't totally in 2WD but it definitely will not go into 4WD at all. It makes a loud "humming" like it is trying to go into 2 WD.
