Question
Ok, so i replaced my IAC valve but the truck still doesn't start. Is there an easy way to tell if it's my fuel pump? When I turn the key on I can hear a thump coming from the tank area. If it is the fuel pump would i be able to replace it with the one from my 2004 mustang gt? Boy, I dread having to drop the tank. I could use some advise if anyone has had similar problems.
Answer #1
You need to check the fuel pressure at the engine, if you don't get pressure, then check for power and ground to the pump. Look at parts sites and see if the part is the same for both the mustang and the F150, if it is then you can use it, but it very unlikely that they're the same.
Answer #2
The proper way to test the fuel pump on your 2002 Ford F-150 is to connect a fuel pressure gauge and compare the readings to the factory specifications. Anything less is just a guess. I would doubt very much that the fuel pump from your 2004 Mustang would work in your truck.
