how to set the timing on my tdi on 2000 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

after setting the timing on my car it will turn over but will not start. it has good compression.

The timing has to be set with special tools that hold the camshaft in a particular position. This sets the initial timing, the timing is then set by use of a laptop connected to your car to give feedback of true injection pump timing. The injection pump is then rotated to achieve the correct timing. This is a bit of a basic answer. Sorry.
