there are 4 special tools you must purchase to do this job that are unique to this car. you must also have a hydraulic
press to assemble the bearings and hub. this is a job for a
    Jaguar specialist, not a novice.

I have a rear wheel bearing that is slightly growling on my 2003 S-Type jag. Big O tire shop will replace it for $275 and the Jag shop will do it for $700. Is the job that tough to do? I have done it on Ford cars as a shade tree mechanic, what kind of tools are required?

letting a tire store work on a jaguar is risky business. my
shop just finished a Mercedes S430 that a national tire chain
damaged "thinking" the front brake rotors were on a hub bearing. they tried a pry bar and damaged the hub, the abs reluctor wheel and the sensor. the car left their shop with all sorts of dash lights flashing. a jag is not a ford. the tools are very expensive from assenmacher specialty tools. at 70 mph on the freeway, i would want the confidence that the job was done by someone who knew what they exactly were doing. if all you are trying to do is repair your jag as cheap as possible, you will get exactly what you pay for. again, this is
NOT a job for a novice.
