how to repair timing belt on 1997 Kia Sportage

how to replace timing belt. does not run now, timing belt is loose, and when trying to start it backfires, information on replacement.

working on 1997 right now take your bottom cam gear off crank and see if key is sheared

If your timing belt is loose ...replace it...also the idle pulley and spring. Buy a good timing belt brand not a cheap one ...because you will have to do it again. Make sure number 1 cylinder is top dead center. If you don't know how to do this ...then you should not repair your timing belt...find someone that knows....if not you will screw up your engine big time.
