1997 Kia Sportage Question: how to repair timing belt

how to replace timing belt. does not run now, timing belt is loose, and when trying to start it backfires, information on replacement.

    i have the samething going on with my sportage. i was told to check the timing over and over again.. what help you with yours?

    working on 1997 right now take your bottom cam gear off crank and see if key is sheared

    If your timing belt is loose ...replace it...also the idle pulley and spring.
    Buy a good timing belt brand not a cheap one ...because you will have to do it again.
    Make sure number 1 cylinder is top dead center. If you don't know how to do this ...then you should not repair your timing belt...find someone that knows....if not you will screw up your engine big time.
