1997 Honda Accord Question: How to repair or replace the column switch for the windshield wipers and washer.
Answer #1Chevy Power September 18, 2012, 12:02Journeyman
Have you checked the washer pump? You will need someone to push the switch and check for power and ground at the pump. Much more common for the pump to go bad than the switch.

No I haven't checked the pump. I will do so. I suspect the switch, though because of the loose feel it has when I move it to the wash position. Feels like there is a loss of spring tension or something like that. It appears that I will have to remove the steering wheel, (with the air bag, careful) to access it. Is that right?
PS Thanks for your input.

Check power at pump first , then , if needed , replace switch. -----------1)REMOVE UPPER AND LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVERS. 2)TURN STEERING WHEEL TO RIGHT TO ACCESS TO SCREWS IN COMBO SWITCH AND REMOVE THEM. 3)DISCONNECT CONNECTORS. 4) WITH A SMALL POCKET SCREWDRIVER RELEASE PLASTIC RETAINER TAB ON MAIN BOX OF SWITCH AND PULL SWITCH OUT.(IF YOU CAN'T SEE THE 'CLIP' USE A LIGHT AND LOOK WHILE WIGGLING THE SWITCH ...YOU'LL SEE WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.) GOOD LUCK.---------------Do I need to say 'installation is reverse of removal...I hope not.!..Have fun.
