i just installed a cold air intake in my car and after a week passed i received a code saying bank 1 system too lean. i changed my MAF sensor and my VSV sensor know as vacuum switch valve. there are no leaks and my car is eating the right amount of gas. i reset the engine light but it came back on after 4 miles.

Thats an O2 sensor code, Bank one is the side of the block/head were the #1 cylinder is located. you will need a scan tool that reads/displays live data to determine which O2 sensor it is. An O2 sensor sould read between .1 and .5 volts under normal circumstance. Autozone will usualy have a scan tool (inovas) that will display live data and will walk out and hook it up for free. More than likely it will be B1S1 or Bank 1 Sensor 1 commonly reffered to as the bank one "up-stream sensor".

I would put back everything to originally and reset codes and try it for few weeks . If the light stays off you will know that air mass was too mutch to handled by O2 sensor and needs some "adjustment" to cheat the system when you put back cold air system.

cold air intakes are a bad idea and they void any emission warrantys.

171 is a lean code for a vacuum leak, low fuel pressure, mass air flow issue. you need a shop to confirm but i would get rid of the cold air intake.

There's no P1701 for this car. So assuming you mean P0171 it is not an O2 sensor code.

    Customer Concern: P0171
Tests/Procedures: 1. Monitor the fuel trim readings at idle and at 55 MPH driving down the road. If the numbers are low at idle, but climb on a part throttle cruise, the airflow meter is questionable.

    2. Monitor the calculated load reading on a wide-open throttle acceleration. The reading should go to 85% or more. If not, then the airflow meter is faulty.

    3. Monitor the oxygen sensor inputs, both front and rear oxygen sensor signals. The oxygen sensor should not stay high or low voltage for extended periods of time. If the oxygen sensor shows low voltage and the fuel trim readings climb check the performance of the oxygen sensor.

    4. Check the vehicle for a vacuum leak by spraying carburetor spray around the intake manifold while watching the fuel trim readings. If the readings change, there is a vacuum leak.
Tech Tips: If fuel trim readings are high at idle and go down on a free rev, a vacuum leak. If the fuel trim readings are high at idle and at cruise suspect fuel injectors.

This diagnosis will require more than a generic code reader. It requires a real scan diagnostic tool that can read the afore mentioned diagnosis.

P0171 Fuel System Too Lean (Bank 1)Possible Causes Setting Conditions
•Base engine "mechanical" fault affecting one or more cylinders
•Check for air leaks after the MAF sensor
•Check for air leaks in the Air Induction system (e.g., in the intake manifold)
•Check for air leaks in the exhaust manifold and in the exhaust pipes
•Fuel control sensor is out of calibration (e.g., ECT, IAT or MAP)
•Fuel delivery system supplying too little fuel during cruise or idle periods (e.g., faulty fuel pump or dirty, restricted fuel filter)
•Fuel injector (one or more) dirty or pressure regulator has failed
•Vehicle driven low on fuel or until it ran out of fuel
    DTC P0100, P0101, P0105, P0110, P0115, P0120, P0121, P0136, P0141, P0151, P0156, P0161, P0300, P0301-P0306, P0440, P0500, P0505, P1130, P1133, P1135, 1150, 53 and P1155 not set; engine running in Closed Loop, system voltage over 11.0v, ECT signal more than 176ºF, engine speed less than 1,500 rpm, and the ECM detected that the average of the Bank 1 Short and Long Term fuel trim was more than +35%.

This code sets in 2 Trip(s).
This code will turn on the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp)

but the thing is that my car is driving perfectly and the idle is perfect. my car is eating very less fuel which is good. just the lean code come up. i checked there is no leaks on the car
