There are two solenoids that are similar. overdrive solenoid and TCC (torque converter solenoid) If the car runs fine and shifts into overdrive at highway speeds, it's your TCC. My shop charges $750 to do that job. It is located under the side plate on the drivers side of the transmission....not do-able without dropping the trans a little. The solenoid repair takes no more than 10 minutes once you have the plate off.
Now, to shut the check engine light off, you need to take one battery cable off for about 20 minutes minimum. Of course the light will go back on after you hit 46/mph a few times.
