Allow the transmission to cool, as contact with hot transmission fluid can result in serious burns. This also enables the majority of the fluid within the transmission to settle to the bottom of the transmission.
Drain the transmission's fluid at the transmission's drain pan. The transmission's drain pan is located on the bottom of the transmission. The drain pan attaches to the transmission with several bolts, which surround the circumference of the pan. Loosen each of the pan's bolts with a wrench. Doing so will allow the majority of the transmission's fluid to drain out of the transmission.
Remove the transmission's pan by removing each of the pan's bolts.
Clean the lip of the transmission's pan as well as the pan's mating surface on the transmission with a cotton rag to ensure that both are free from old gasket material and debris.
Coat both sides of a new pan gasket with gasket sealer. Then place the gasket sealer over the lip of the pan.
Install the transmission's pan onto the transmission by bolting the pan into place. Turn each of the pan's bolts in small increments with a wrench to ensure that the gasket seats evenly.
Remove the transmission's dipstick from the transmission's dipstick tube. The transmission's dipstick tube is located under the hood, on the passenger's side of the Park Avenue. Pull the dipstick straight up to remove it from the dipstick tube.
Pour 4 to 5 qts. of new transmission fluid into the dipstick tube.
Start the Park Avenue and allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature, then shift through all of the transmission's gears to ensure that the transmission fluid circulates throughout the transmission.
Turn the vehicle's engine off. Then insert the dipstick into the dipstick tube.
Withdraw the transmission's dipstick and read the measurement at the tip of the dipstick. The transmission fluid should appear just under the "Full" mark. Add additional fluid to the transmission if necessary.
