Question: How to Access Rear Main

I have an 89 Wagoneer V8 and I believe the rear main is leaking. It has 89000 miles. I need to know how to remove the oil pan, clearance wise, and if the job can be done without removing the transmission. Also, is there another source of the leak that's more probable. Thank you.

Best thing to do is to go here and get the real procedures. I know that on some of the earlier Jeep V8s they still used a rope rear main seal that could accessed with out removing the trans, but go here and be sure.

I have an 88 wagoneer w/360 and it is possible just very limited on space. Can be done but is frustrating.
