Cruise control on should give better fuel consumption as the driver is not constantly giving varying on and off the gas signals. The input is smoother. Its vacuum operated, operates an actuator that pulls on the throttle butterfly. Input from master switch on left of steering column, brake pedal input or depressing clutch pedal (if applicable) cancels the cruise control.
