I recently had my check engine light come on (again!). I took it to my mechanic and was told my diverter valve needed to be replaced. When I went back and looked at my records, they had replaced it 2 years ago. Does it really need to be replaced this often? I drive my car primarily in the city under normal conditions. The car has 65,000 miles on it.
how often does my diverter valve need to be changed? on 2001 Volkswagen Golf

I was not aware of it but I read that the diagram is weak in the factory unit. There are people that have upgraded diverter valves for sale. http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-Golf_V--2.0T/Engine/ES263879/ One would think if the manufacturer realized the part was weakly designed they would redesign the part themselves. Google "VW Golf diverter valve" see if you can get an re designed valve cheaper on line.

Thanks for the reply- one can only wish that VW would have done a repair recall.....
